Bolton Gymnastics Club is a not-for profit organisation which is run by a well-developed team of volunteers and coaches. The club was founded in 2005 and began at Within's Leisure Centre...
The club began it's journey at Within's Leisure Centre. Set up in 2005 by Sandra Humphreys, the club offered sessions 3 times a week with athletes training a maximum of 4 hours. While successful, this limited the level of competitions the athletes could participate in
In 2011, Withins School was turned into an Academy, which meant that a new school was to be built and the sports hall would be demolished. This meant the club needed to find a new building. With the help of the council the club moved into a small sports pavilion at Newhouse Farm.
We were incredibly grateful when Kevin Davies Kids in Bolton supported the club and donated £26,000 to help the club kit out the new facility. The club was able to purchase a ½ sprung floor and another bar. The club grew from 180 members to 350 members in the space of 2 years
While we were at this venue, we endured floods, lost and damaged equipment and limited space... It was time to branch out.
In 2014, we moved into our current building and set up home on Summerfield Road. When we moved in we gathered a group of volunteers and got to work. Painting walls, digging pits, knocking down walls, moving equipment, the list goes on.
Thanks to funding, we got a brand new fully sprung floor, 3 beams, 3 sets of bars and our trusty vaulting table, which we still have today and is older than a lot of our athletes!
The club went from strength to strength, we were determined to be one of the most sought after gymnastics clubs in the North West, and that was reflected in our mammoth waiting list. We added new classes and disciplines, trained up our coaches and strengthened our volunteer team
2019 - ?
Over the years, we have successfully developed a purpose built facility offering sessions to all ages; from 8 weeks to adult in a range of disciplines. All volunteers played a part in making the club what it is today and we wouldn't have the wonderful facility we do today if it wasn't for them. We currently boast a fully sprung floor, 4 beams, 5 sets of bars and 2 vaulting tables (yes, one of them is still our old faithful)
We now have over 500 members across our range of disciplines and the club keeps growing. We have over 20 qualified coaches and a Young Leader's Academy, helping to get our older gymnasts involved in coaching and passing on their love and knowledge of the sport
The development of the club over the years has enabled us to travel both locally and Internationally. Entering competitions and attending training sessions in places such as Newcastle, Birmingham, Slovenia, Malta, Costa Rica and a number of other places...
